Q 1.Why does Prospero call Antonio a 'false uncle'? How did Antonio usurp his position?
Ans:-Prospero calls Antonio Miranda's 'false uncle' because Prospero had entrusted him with his kingdom,and Antonio won over the people who were on Prospero's side and usurped his kingdom.As Prospero was busy honing his knowledge in the fields of logic,grammar, geometry,and astronomy, Antonio seized the opportunity and deceitfully snatched everything from Prospero.

Q 2.What does Miranda recall from her childhood?
Ans:-Miranda does not recall anything from her childhood.

Q 3.How did Prospero make an exit from his kingdom with his daughter?
Ans:-Antonio struck a deal with the Naples.In exchange for money Antonio would get rid of Prospero and the king of Naples would make Antonio the Duke of Milan.One stormy night Prospero,along with Miranda, was thrown out of the kingdom.Antonio's people hurried the father and the daughter onto a ship and carried them out to sea,where they had already prepared a frail boat, with no sails or masts or ropes.They tossed them onto that boat to die.

Q 4.When Prospero met with the misfortune, what comfort did his little daughter provide him?
Ans:-Miranda was a little angel who provided comfort to Prospero during his times of misfortune.She kept him going and her smile comforted him.

Q 5.What qualities did Prospero possess that kept him moving ?
Ans:-Prospero was not only kind but an intelligent man too.He had faith that tides will change .He was courageous to keep going.

Q 6.Why is Miranda surprised to know about their real identity?
Ans:-Miranda has no clue about her past.She does not remember the ordeal that she went through along with her father.Hence, she is surprised.

Ans:-Prospero is the speaker.

Ans:-From being the Duke of Milan, Prospero was banished from kingdom and was throu at the mercy of the seas. Fortunately,he was saved.

c. What other powers did the speaker possess?
Ans:-Prospero possessed magical powers.

2. O the heavens! What foul play had we that we came from thence?
a. Who is the speaker?
Ans:-Miranda is the speaker.

b.Why is the speaker shocked and surprised ?
Ans:-Miranda is shocked and surprised because she didn't know the evil past and upon hearing it from her father ,she could not believe it.

c.Explain ' foul play'.
Ans:-'Foul play' stands for all the wrongdoings that Prospero and Miranda had to endure at the hands of Antonio.

3. Good wombs have borne bad sons.
a. Who is the speaker and to whom is the speaker referring to ?
Ans:-Miranda is the speaker and is speaking about her grandmother and uncle.

b.Who is the  'good womb' in this context ?
Ans:-Her grandmother's womb is a good womb.For her uncle's evil deeds, Miranda does not want to blame her grandmother.

c.What were the bad deeds done by the 'sons' ?
Ans:-He had deceitfully usurped the throne and had banished Prospero from the kingdom.

C. Think and answer.
Q 1. On the basis of your understanding of the play, describe the father- daughter relationship in your own words.
Ans:-The father and daughter share a loving relationship.The father endured all miseries for his daughter. Her smile comforted him and egged him to go on.He disguised and gave his daughter the best education.

Q 2. A 'sea change' refers to a significant and profound change, or a transformation. Can you think of anything in the extract you read that  represents a sea change in the lives of the character ? Illustrate your answer .
Ans:-Miranda's life underwent a sea change. From begins Duke's daughter , she was left at the mercy of an unknown person.

Q 3. If you were Prospero, would you forgive Antonio for the terrible things that he did or would you want to seek revenge? Do you think it is important for people to forgive each other? Give reasons for your answer.
And:-If I were Prospero, I would make Antonio understand his mistakes before forgiving him. It is important forpeople to forgive each other because that brings closure and peace to the forgive.
